How to drive a nail through wood

When driving a nail into wood, it is important to first choose the correct size and kind of hammer. The most popular types of hammers include claw hammers as well as mallets and ball peenhammers. Each type of hammer comes with its advantages and disadvantages. A claw hammer works well when you're trying to hit nails with a heavy hammer. However it is difficult to precisely control where the blow hits. Although a sledgehammer can be used to hit large areas quickly, it is too heavy to be useful for small tasks.

Once you have chosen the right hammer for you, put your hand flat against its side so that it rests comfortably in the palm of your hand. Grip the handle firmly, but don't squeeze it so tightly that you hurt yourself. Keep your wrist relaxed and the hammer straight up. Swing the hammer back towards the ground, with your aim at the middle of the nail. You should feel the impact on the nail from the hammer. You can practice swinging the hammer with a block or wood until you feel the rhythm.

The hammer should be held close to your body when you are ready to begin driving the nail. To ensure that the nail is perpendicular on the surface of the wooden floor, position it. Your eyes should be focused on the nail's tip. Swing the hammer forward, and then move the hammerhead. This can be repeated several times to increase the speed of your swing. After mastering the technique, you can add power to your swings. To make it more powerful, hold the hammer up high to your shoulder and then bring it down. You'll have more energy to work with.

Once you have made the first hole, remove your hammer. To remove the remainder of the nails, you can use a screwdriver/pry bar. Keep the nails heads in line with the surface of the board to prevent splitting the wood.
